Day 4 Recap: 2011 Training Camp

After the
defense turned up the heat during the team period on Sunday, the offense
bounced back in a big way Monday as the Spiders wrapped up the fourth day of
Training Camp under near 100-degree temperatures on the Grass Practice Field.
"There's been a lot of give and take so far and that's a good sign," said head
coach Latrell Scott. "The defense had its way Sunday, but I'm proud of
the way the offensive guys responded today."
The quarterbacks were in rhythm Monday, but the running game behind junior FB
Kendall Gaskins and senior RB Garrett Turner broke off big plays, including a
50-yard scamper from Turner around the left side during the team period.
The offensive line, which was a work in progress during the 2010 season,
continues to solidify and is carving holes for the running backs and giving the
quarterbacks time in the pocket.
"This was a group that caught some heat last year," said Scott. "But
you've got to credit Coach Polin for what he's done with the offensive line. If
we can keep them healthy, this could be a real strength for us this season."
On special teams, Richmond did kickoff return work during the early parts of
Monday's practice and true freshman PK Remington Hinshaw made good on all three
of his field goal tries during the pressure-kick segment.
The Spiders are back on the grass Tuesday at 3 p.m.
