UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va.- The Richmond men's soccer team faces tough A-10 competition against Dayton and No. 12 ranked Xavier at Robins Stadium this weekend.
LAST TIME OUT- The Spiders took home two conference victories on the road last weekend. Richmond shut out La Salle 1-0 on Friday when freshman midfielder Mitch Reavis launched a ball from 20 yards out in the 10th minute of play. The Spider defense and sophomore goalkeeper Thomas Hand held onto the lead, giving the Spider their third shut out of the season. A strong second half performance helped the Spiders earn a 3-2 victory over Fordham on Sunday. Oliver Murphy, Christopher Hill, and Nick Butler each netted goals for Richmond.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
The Dayton Flyers (8-4-1, 2-2-1 A-10) split a pair of decisions on the road last weekend. St. Bonaventure shut out the Flyers 0-3 on Friday. The squad earned a 2-1 victory on Sunday against Duquesne. Freshman Goalie Chris Frochauer made seven saves during Sunday's match.
Abe Keller and Daniel Berko lead the Flyer attack with six goals each on the season. The Flyers average 2.08 goals per game
The Flyers defeated No.22 ranked Furman 3-2 early in the season and held No. 13 Xavier to a 2-2 tie.
SCOUTING THE MUSKETEERS
Xavier (10-0-4, 3-0-2 A-10) is ranked No. 12 in the NSCAA Coaches Poll.
The Musketeers tied Duquesne 0-0 on Friday. The Musketeers turned around and defeated St. Bonaventure 2-1 with goals from Luke Spencer and Nick Huggaland. Spencer leads the Xavier attack with 10 goals and 50 shots on the season.
Xavier has the 12th best scoring offense and 41st best defensive unit. The Xavier and Maryland are the only two teams that remain undefeated in Division I soccer. Xavier's four tied matches were to No. 20 ranked Northwestern during the season opener, Virginia, Dayton, and Duquesne.
