Four Spiders Earn Preseason All-Conference Honors

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - With the 2012 season just around the corner, four University of Richmond Spider football players earned Preaseason All-CAA honors from College Sports Madness on Tuesday. Kevin Finney was named to the second team, while Kendall Gaskins, Jacob Ruby and Darius McMillan were named to the third team.
The preseason accolade is the second for Finney this year, as he was previously named to the CFPA Tight End Award List. Last season, Finney notched 31 catches for 348 yards. Against William and Mary, the tight end caught a career-best five passes for 46 yards.
The honor is also the second this preseason for Gaskins, who was named a Second-Team Preseason All-American by The Sports Network. Gaskins enters the 2012 season tied for sixth on the Spiders' all-time list for rushing touchdowns with 21.
After earning All-American honors last season, McMillan enters 2012 looking to help lead a veteran Spider defense. McMillan finished 2011 ranked second in the CAA in tackles with 133 and tackles per game at 12.1. On the year, he tallied 40 solo tackles, including 3.5 for loss and 0.5 sacks.
Rounding out Richmond's quartet of College Sports Madness honorees is Ruby, who will be counted on to help anchor the Spider offensive line. Last season, Ruby appeared in all 11 games, earning 10 starts.
