Spider Football Practice Report No. 8

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond Spiders football team, fresh off its first two-a-day on Tuesday, were back at Robins Stadium on Wednesday morning. The team will once again have a pair of practices on Thursday.
An hour in to practice, the teams converged for an 11-on-11 drill. Working on their up-tempo attack, the offense looked sharp, with FB Kendall Gaskins ripping off a pair of nice runs. Also in the first drill, LB Taylor Grant made a nice play, tallying a tackle in the backfield while also forcing a fumble.
After 15 snaps, the Spiders began work on special teams for 30 minutes before coming back for more 11-on-11 drills. The highlight for the offense came late in the session when QB Michael Strauss connected with WR Christian Parker.
After hooking up for a 15-yard gain earlier in practice, the two went for a 60-yard touchdown. Working on the left side, Parker ran a post pattern to get behind the defense. Strauss hit Parker in stride for the long, 60-yard score.
At the end of practice, head coach Danny Rocco brought the teams to the end of the field for a goal line scrimmage. The first-team defense was impressive, not allowing the first-team offense to score after three plays inside the five-yard line.
Next up was the second team and the offense quickly took the advantage. On the first snap, RB James McKinney scored from four yards out, as the offensive line blocked a clear path to the right side.
Two snaps later, TE Sam Roller scored from three yards as Strauss found the redshirt junior in the left corner of the end zone for an easy score. On the final play of the goal line practice, freshman RB Jacobi Green got on the board with a two-yard run to the right.
The Richmond Spiders will have a pair of practices on Thursday - 8:45 start at Robins Stadium and a 4 PM start at the Grass Fields on River Road.
