Team Notes
- Robins Stadium was sold-out for the season opener. This is the 18th sell-out at Robins Stadium since the facility opened in 2010.
- There was an 81 minute lightning delay before the third quarter of tonight’s game. The delay marked the second-consecutive year in which the Spiders’ home opener experienced a weather delay.
- Richmond’s 34-0 win is the largest margin of victory in a season-opening game since 1999 when they defeated VMI, 42-6.
- The Spiders recorded their first shutout victory since 11/3/12 vs. Rhode Island (39-0).
- The last time the Spiders shut out their opponent in a season opener was 9/2/2006 in a 13-0 win at Duke.
- Richmond’s victory also marked the 33rd season opening shutout in school history.
- Head coach Danny Rocco improves to 8-0 when coaching against VMI.
- Richmond extendsits winning streak over VMI to 11 games, dating back to 1996. The 11-game win streak is the longest for either team in the series dating back to 1893.
- Since the 2004 season, Richmond is 56-5 when leading at the half.
- Richmond is undefeated (5-0) in night games at Robins Stadium.
- The Spiders improve their non-conference, FCS regular season win streak to 17-0 since 2005.
- Richmond extended its home opener win streak to eight. The Spiders are now 4-0 in home openers at Robins Stadium.
- The Spiders are 43-6 since 2005 when scoring 30+ points in a game.
Players Notes
- Sophomore RB Jacobi Green recorded his first career receiving touchdown in the first quarter with a 7 yard reception. He rushed for a touchdown in the opener last season in his collegiate debut at Virginia.
- Green also set a new career long rush with a 53-yard run in the third quarter, and had a career-high 95 total yards rushing.
- Sophomore PK Brandon Jordi accounted for a career-high 10 points.
- Jordi also recorded his first two career field goal attempts and made both field goals from 29 and 38 yards in the third quarter.
- Freshman WR Brian Brown recorded his first career reception in the second quarter. Brown finished with 3 catches for 18 yards.
- Senior LB Walt Sparks had his first career interception in the second quarter.
- Redshirt junior QB Michael Strauss threw a career-long touchdown pass of 59 yards to senior WR Ben Edwards. The 59-yard score was also a career long for Edwards.
- Redshirt sophomore FB Seth Fisher set career highs in rushing yards (29) on 6 rushing attempts.
- Freshman QB Kyle Lauletta completed 6-of-9 passes for 48 yards and a touchdown.
- Redshirt freshman RB T.J. Moon rushed for 44 yards on 7 carries with a long rush of 12 yards.
- Redshirt freshman QB David Broadus rushed for 31 yards on five attempts with a long rush of 13 yards.
- Redshirt junior TE Hunter Westfall caught two passes for 27 yards and a touchdown, with a long reception of 17 yards - all career highs.
- Sophomore WR Reggie Diggs had a career-high four catches in the game.
- Redshirt junior LB Sean Ryan and junior DB Justin Grant had five tackles each, setting new career highs.
- Redshirt sophomore DB Dominique Miller had his first career interception, while freshman DL Winston Craig also had his first career INT.
