Postgame Quotes – No. 16/17 Richmond 30, Elon 10
“I thought defensively we had a chance to really dominate the line of scrimmage and we really did. And it was a pretty impressive performance by the defensive front. They pressured the passer, they didn’t really get the run game going at all and I don’t know how many yards they got on that last drive, but they were under 100 yards I think going into that last drive so that is hard to do. We knew they would complete some balls and their quarterback got hurt which certainly helped our cause. We knew they would try to control the momentum with the passing game and they couldn’t really get that done today because of our pressure.”
-- Richmond head coach Danny Rocco on the defensive play
“Offensively, we looked good at times and then we sputtered. They changed their coverages up, I thought, pretty good. They kind of rolled into some cover two and kind of knocked us back a little bit and I thought Mike missed a couple throws. Jacobi and Seth had some runs and Hamlin was able to get some yards and then Porter had some runs. Mike showed some toughness running the ball and being in the pocket. We just didn’t quite have the explosive passing game that you would like to hope we would have right now. So we have some work to do and also have some guys hurt so we will have to reassess.”
-- Richmond head coach Danny Rocco on the offense
“Our front seven have been playing exceptionally well as far as getting to the quarterback and our blitzes are having a great impact and we are trying to just get to them as fast as we can and hopefully get as many sacks as we can get.”
-- Richmond DL Justin Williamson talks about the pressure from the defensive line
“That’s a good football team. I give Danny (Rocco) kudos, he’s got the team playing well. The last couple of weeks their defense has turned it up a notch. We struggled moving the ball throughout. On defense, we kept playing hard. We have to be able to take advantage of the turnovers.”
-- Elon head coach Rich Skrosky on the loss
