Postgame Quotes – No. 21 Richmond 34, No. 19 William & Mary 20
“We had minimal penalties and they had breaks go against them all game long. Some of their penalties really hurt their momentum and we took advantage of the things that we needed to take advantage of. We were pretty much error free. We certainly had a couple drives that I thought we could have finished but this was really complete win here.”
-- Richmond head coach Danny Rocco on win
“I thought that that had to happen. It is obvious that Strauss is kind of back and we need him to get in a rhythm. I was really excited about how we were able to get the run game going and have that balance to come out of here with the win.”
-- Rocco on establishing the running game early
“Yea the timing was better. It is not just the function of the quarterback, it is the function of how much work that have had together with the offense. When he came back a week ago we were behind. Some things looked good and some things didn’t look as good. We certainly had our timing today and we had the balance we needed to have.”
-- Rocco on Strauss
“It means a lot to win the game. I think anytime you can finish your regular season with a win is big. We have had kind of tough games the past two weeks and would have been just heartbreaking for this team to finish the season with a three-game losing streak. So we bounced back and did the things we had to do and positioned ourselves really well. Tomorrow we will sit with the team at 11 o’clock and wait to see our fate.”
-- Rocco on the win
“Those guys up front did a great job of setting the tone early. They dominated the line of scrimmage and our backs ran well. Having to be able to be versatile and being able to run and pass just like that is just a complete team effort today.”
-- QB Michael Strauss on the running game
“It was kind of our last chance. We had a mission all season long to go to the playoffs and Coach Rocco said that that mission was still a go before the game started so that is what we did. We played this game like a playoff game and us seniors didn’t want to go out like that if it was going to be our last game. Last week was embarrassing and we know we have a good team.”
-- Strauss on the importance of the game
“That is what happens man. You have to capitalize off turnovers to win the game. We have been on the opposite side all season and it feels good to be on the right side today.”
-- Strauss on capitalizing off turnovers
That is my roommate. I love that guy. We push ourselves on the field every time and expect more out of each other. To see him do well is just amazing. I love that kid. He has a big heart and runs harder than anyone I have ever seen so when you give him the ball something good is always going to happen.”
-- Strauss on RB Seth Fisher
