Spider Football Gameday Central - Maine

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The No. 8/8 University of Richmond Spiders football team will travel north to face CAA foe Maine at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
The contest will mark the 25th meeting all-time between the Spiders and the Black Bears, with the teams splitting the previous 24 meetings. Maine has won the last two games, but Richmond has won three of the last five.

Rocco’s Impressive Record in November
In his nine seasons as a head coach, the Spiders’ Danny Rocco has posted a record of 22-4 (.846) in the month of November. At Richmond, Rocco is 8-0 in the month, including a perfect 4-0 mark in 2013.
Spiders Upend No. 3/4 Villanova, 10-9
In a defensive slugfest, the Richmond Spiders defeated the No. 3/4 Villanova Wildcats, 10-9, at Robins Stadium on November 1. The UR defense was incredibly impressive, holding the powerful Wildcat offense to just nine points and 253 total yards. The nine points were the fewest for Villanova since September 17, 2011 – a 20-9 loss to Monmouth.
Spiders Vault Up National Rankings
With its impressive win over the Wildcats, the Spiders moved up to No. 8 in the latest Sports Network Poll released on Monday – up five spot from the previous week. In the FCS Coaches Poll, Richmond moved up six places to No. 8. Richmond has been nationally ranked 21 of the past 26 weeks.
Historically Stingy Defense
With a 10-9 win over No. 3/4 Villanova, the Richmond Spider defense has now surrendered 10 or less points in three-straight games, the first time the team has accomplished that feat since the 1976 season.
Richmond Dominating First Quarters
Through seven games this season, Richmond has dominated its opponents in the first quarter, out-scoring them 85-10. In fact, the Spiders have not allowed an opponent to score in the opening frame in the last seven games.
