Spiders In The NFL Update ? December 22

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – With the signing of a pair of former University of Richmond Spider football standouts, UR now has five former student-athletes on NFL rosters this year.
After spending four seasons with Atlanta after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Falcons, former Spider All-American Lawrence Sidbury signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this past week after spending last year with the Indianapolis Colts. Sidbury has appeared in 48 games in the NFL, totaling 17 tackles and 5.0 sacks.
A seventh round selection by the Buffalo Bills in 2011, former Richmond great Justin Rogers signed with Washington on December 10. Rogers, a former All-American and four-time All-CAA selections has played in 76 career NFL games with Buffalo, Houston and Miami, making 76 tackles and picking off three passes.
After being signed as an undrafted rookie free agent following a standout career with the Spiders, Kerry Wynn has started to make his mark for the New York Giants. Wynn has appeared in the Giants’ past four games, totaling 14 tackles, three assists and one-and-a-half quarterback sacks.
Against St. Louis Dec. 21, Wynn had a quarterback sack, as well as an interception and a fumble recovery. It was the first interception by a Giants rookie since cornerback Jayron Hosley picked off Cam Newton at Carolina on Sept. 20, 2012 and the first by a Giants defensive lineman since Justin Tuck intercepted Matthew Stafford at Detroit on Dec. 22, 2013. Wynn tied for the team high with seven stops in a win over Washington.
Along with these three, a pair of former Richmond stars have not seen the field yet this season, but are on NFL rosters. After a promising preseason, Cooper Taylor was put on the season-ending injured reserve by the New York Giants. A former teammate of Taylor, Kendall Gaskins, was signed to the San Francisco 49ers practice squad earlier this season.
