Mines Selected For Bill Walsh Minority Fellowship

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond Spiders assistant football coach Fontel Mines has been selected for the Bill Walsh Fellowship, a program administered by the NFL Management Council and NFL Player Engagement.
The Bill Walsh Fellowship offers minority coaches the opportunity to participate, observe and gain experience during an NFL preseason training camp. Mines will be working with the Washington Redskins during training camp in Richmond, Va.
“I am thrilled by the opportunity to work for a first class program like the Redskins,” Mines remarked. "This is a great chance to learn and develop from coaches at the highest level."
As part of the fellowship, Mines will work as an assistant to Redskins tight ends coach Wes Phillips from July 21 to August 2.
Mines’ selection marks the second-straight year that a University of Richmond assistant coach has been chosen for the Bill Walsh Minority Fellowship. Last year, Spider assistant coach Byron Thweatt earned the distinction and also worked in Redskins camp.
