Spider Football Practice No. 9 Report

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders football team continued its quest for a 2014 CAA Championship on Tuesday when the squad hit the field for its first two-a-day practice of training camp. Unfortunately, the afternoon practice was cancelled because of lightening.
The Spiders, practicing in full pads, continued to install the 1st and 2nd down offense and defense, on the first day of two-a-days this morning on a very rainy day in Richmond, which started at 8:45 a.m.
Practice Notes
- 45 minutes into practice, the squad entered its first team session. QB Michael Strauss started things off with a pass to RB Seth Fisher down the middle for approximately 112 yards.
- RB Jacobi Green followed in with a huge run down the left sideline to keep things going for the first team.
- Green continued to collect yards with the second team, grabbing two more runs that tallied multiple yards.
- Defensively, LB Eric Wright stopped the offense as he picked up a huge interception from Strauss.
- LB Omar Howard closed the second team session for the defense with a huge TFL, stopping RB T.J. Moon in the backfield.
- The Spiders continued to incorporate the tight ends, as TE Christian Conklin led the group with over three receptions on the day.
Post-Practice Quotes
“I thought practice went pretty good. All the guys showed up to work hard. It was good to have the wet weather to allow all the centers and quarterbacks practice their exchanges under the conditions. The guys showed up hard at work and the good thing about today is that we get to do it again. Today is a two-a-day and it is the first one we get. We don’t get many so we have to take advantage of them. We will have a quick turn around and this afternoon will be better.”
