Spider Football Practice No. 20 Report

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders football team continued its quest for a 2014 CAA Championship on Friday when the squad hit the field for its final practice of training camp.
The Spiders, practicing in just helmets and shoulder pads, held a special teams practice that focus primarily on punting and field goals on a cloudy day in Richmond.
Practice Notes
- K/P Matthew Kassabaum started the day, taking the first half of punting for the Spiders, before P D.J. Helkowski stepped in for the second half of the morning.
- K Peter Yoder took the majority of the field goals and hit most of all of them, including a 61-yarder that got the entire stadium yelling.
- Offensive Coordinator Brandon Streeter was absent most of the morning because his wife had his third child two days ago. He joined at the end and participated in a quarterbacks competition with his five QBs and was named the champion.
- At the end of practice, defensive coordinator Bob Trott accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge from former Spider Rodney Barnes and challenged his three children, Amanda, Nathan and Brittany.
Post-Practice Quotes
“I thought we had a good day today overall. Kicking, I am getting better every day and trying to get more consistent with closer range and luckily got a 61-yarder that I did not expect, but I’ll take it. I think the team is ready for next Saturday. Ever since the last day of last season we have been focusing on August 30 and I think as a special teams unit we are going to be great this year.”
-- K Peter Yoder talks about the final practice of training camp
“Today was a special teams day and I thought our practice went pretty well. The quarterbacks did a little competition and Coach Streeter came out victorious, which is unfortunate, but it was a fun day for us. I think the unity of the team is right where it needs to be right now and I think we are right where we want to be at the start of the first week of the season.”
