Spider Rock Built In Lessing Plaza At Robins Stadium
Robins Stadium will have a new feature this year in Lessing Plaza, and with it, the beginning of a new tradition – the Spider Rock.
The Spider Rock – made possible thanks to a generous donation from a Richmond donor – was born from an alumnus’ gift to the athletic department of a small stone engraved with a spider. This spider stone sparked a conversation of creating a larger version that would unify the campus community and create a tradition for Spider teams. Several of the smaller stones currently sit on the desks of members of the athletic department.
Later this season, a brick pathway from the Robins Center to Robins Stadium will be completed, as well as a new gate with the inscription “Spider Walk” engraved across the top allowing all Richmond teams competing in Robins Stadium to be a part of this new tradition.
“We are excited about the Spider Rock," said director of athletics Keith Gill. "We are thankful to all of those who made it possible to start this unifying tradition. The forthcoming brick pathway and new “Spider Walk” gate will also unify our teams, the campus and the larger community and will be a valuable tradition for years to come.”
