RTD: Hype Growing Creepy For UR, JMU On 'College GameDay?'

BY JOHN O'CONNOR Richmond Times-Dispatch
RICHMOND, Va. - Unless a member of ESPN’s “College GameDay” crew suffers from arachnophobia, the University of Richmond’s live tarantula mascot, “Tarrant,” may make an appearance on the popular pregame show that will precede UR’s football game at James Madison on Saturday.
David Walsh, Richmond’s deputy athletic director, said Thursday that the school and ESPN were in discussions about “Tarrant,” named for former UR basketball coach Dick Tarrant, creepily enhancing “College GameDay.”
“Tarrant,” a blue Venezuelan tarantula, was bred in Utah, resides in the UR biology department, and is a regular at Spiders’ home basketball games while enclosed in a transparent case.
"Tarrant" will make the trip to Harrisonburg.
