Jacobi Green Named A Finalist For 2015 Dudley Award

RICHMOND, Va. – It has been announced on Monday morning by the Richmond Times-Dispatch that University of Richmond running back Jacobi Green has been named a finalist for the 2015 Dudley Award that is annually presented to the state of Virginia’s top Division I football player.
Green is one of three finalists for the award along with James Madison QB Vad Lee and William & Mary FS DeAndre Houston-Carson. Lee won the award last year and was named CAA Offensive Player of the Year this season despite appearing in just eight games. The award will be handed out at the Dudley/Lanier Awards Banquet on Wednesday night at the Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa/Short Pump.
Green has been phenomenal for the Spiders this season since taking over as the featured back vs. James Madison on Oct. 24. Over the last five games of the regular season the senior collected 928 yards on the ground to amass a total of 1,285 yards for the year, which led the CAA. He also collected 15 rushing scores that also sat atop the CAA standings. For his efforts he earned CAA All-Conference First Team honors and followed that up with a 141-yard, three touchdown performance against William & Mary in the second round of the FCS Playoffs.
The Dudley Award is named after Bill Dudley, who was a standout at the University of Virginia and with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Detroit Lions and Washington Redskins. He is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The award was first handed out in 1990 to Virginia QB Shawn Moore. Richmond’s lone recipient to this point is DT Marc Megna in 1998.
Megna collected 69 tackles during that season, including 17 tackles for loss and 13.0 sacks. He also broke up five passes, forced three fumbles and recovered two. Megna went on to be drafted by the New York Jets in the sixth round of the 1999 NFL Draft and spent time with the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals of the NFL. He also made appearances with the Barcelona Dragons and Berlin Thunder of the NFL Europe as well as the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL where he won a Grey Cup.
The Touchdown Club of Richmond will also be honoring Green as the Offensive Back of the Year along with his teammates Brian Brown, who has been selected as the WR of the Year and Nick Ritcher who has been tabbed as the OL of the Year giving Richmond a clean sweep of the offensive awards.
The Spiders will hit the road this weekend to continue their pursuit of a second National Championship in Normal, Ill. opposite the second-seeded Redbirds of Illinois State. It is the first quarterfinal appearance for Richmond since the 2009 season. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday, Dec. 11 and will be aired on ESPN3 and the Watch ESPN app.
