Football Ranked No. 18 In Preseason FCS Coaches Poll

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After posting a 9-5 overall record and reaching the second round of the FCS Playoffs in 2014, the University of Richmond Spiders were ranked No. 18 in the country in the preseason FCS Coaches Poll released on Wednesday.
Last season, Richmond was ranked in the top-25 of the FCS Coaches or Sports Network poll every week of the season, reaching as high as No. 8 in the nation. Last year, Richmond started the season ranked No. 24 in the FCS Coaches poll.
In other preseason polls released earlier this summer, the Spiders are ranked No. 12 by Lindy’s College Football and No. 20 by Athlon College Football.
The 2014 season was one for the record books for the Spiders. Under head coach Danny Rocco, Richmond reached the FCS Playoffs for the first time since 2009 last season. UR defeated Morgan State in the first round, 46-24, at Robins Stadium, before falling on the road at No. 6 Coastal Carolina in the second round of the playoffs.
The Spiders finished the season ranked No. 16 in the nation in both major polls after posting an overall record of 9-5 and a mark of 5-3 in CAA league play. The nine victories on the year were the most for the team since 2009.
