Clyde, Rocco Gain Top Honors; 11 Named To All-State Squad

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Eleven different members of the Richmond football team earned All-State recognition on Thursday, led by Defensive Rookie of the Year Andrew Clyde and Coach of the Year Danny Rocco.
Members from the Colonial Athletic Association boasted four of the five major VaSID (Virginia Sports Information Directors) All-State awards for the 2015 football season. The 11 players by the Spiders was the highest total of any program.
RB Jacobi Green, WR Brian Brown, OL Nick Ritcher and CB Ayo Ogunniyi all earned First-Team accolades, while QB Kyle Lauletta, WR Reggie Diggs, OL Thomas Evans, DL Winston Craig, LB Omar Howard and S David Jones all joined Clyde on the Second Team.
Clyde was among the team’s leader in tackles with 56, which ranked seventh nationally among defensive linemen. He tallied 8.5 tackles for a loss and led the league in sacks with six. He also recovered one fumble, forced another and was credited with five quarterback hurries.
For Rocco, it was his third Coach of the Year accolade after being named CAA Coach of the Year and the Touchdown Club of Richmond Virginia State Coach of the Year. This past fall, he guided the Spiders to back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time since 2008 and 2009. The Spiders finished 10-4 overall and reached the FCS Semifinals for the third time in program history.
VaSID recognizes 28 all-state teams in 15 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an All-Sports champion at both the university and college divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference office in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
