QUICK SLANTS
- Richmond returns home in search of its fourth straight win after a thrilling, 36-30 triple overtime win at #16 Albany last Saturday afternoon. It was the Spiders’ fifth straight win in a regular season contest against a nationally-ranked opponent.
- The Spiders have won 17 of their past 23 CAA contests dating back to the 2013 season.
- Richmond enters today with a school record 10-game home unbeaten streak with the Spiders setting the record with a win over Towson, 31-28, on Oct. 1. Prior to the current streak, Richmond had won nine straight home games three different times in school history (1918-20, 1968-70, 1984-86).
- The current 10-game home unbeaten is the second longest active streak in the country behind only Jacksonville State, who has won 11 straight home games.
- Today’s matchup is expected to be the 26th sellout in the six-plus year history of Robins Stadium. The Spiders are 30-10 (.750) here at the stadium. During Coach Rocco’s four-plus seasons, Richmond is 24-5 (.828) inside the friendly confines.
- Richmond is 25-12 (.676) in home conference games since joining the league in 2007.
- The Spiders’ final five opponents are a combined 15-8 this year, which is ranked in the top-15 in toughest remaining schedules.
- This week marks the second straight week that Richmond has faced off against the CAA’s top defense with Villanova leading the way at 15.2 points per game by the opposition. Prior to last week’s Spiders’ win, Albany was leading the league, allowing just 15.0 ppg.
- These two teams have had quite the battles in recent years with the past two meetings being decided by one point (21-20 VU in 2015, 10-9 UR in 2014).
- The home team has won eight of the past nine meetings in this series, including Richmond having won four straight against the Wildcats in Richmond.
- Since Richmond joined the league in 2007, the Spiders and Wildcats are two of just four programs to win 45 or more games over that span (UNH and JMU are the only other two).
- Today’s contest boasts two of the league’s best offenses with the two teams both averaging over 30 points per game and posting over 400 total yards per game.
