Thompson Takes Home CAA Rookie of the Week Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – For three weeks, redshirt freshman Deontez Thompson has talked about knowing he had to step up with injuries at the running back position.
Thompson has done that and then some, posting his second 100-plus performance in a three-week span, including two more TDs en route to earning his second CAA Rookie of the Week accolade of the season.
“Deontez has done a tremendous job for us. He’s a dynamic athlete that provides of a lot of different ways to use him out of the backfield,” Head Coach Danny Rocco said. “He’s done a great job continuing to learn as the year goes on and we’re excited for the what’s in store.”
In this past Saturday’s win at Elon, Thompson piled up 140 total yards with two touchdowns. He finished the day with 14 carries for 116 yards, while also catching two passes for 24.
On the year, Thompson has 369 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
Thompson and the Spiders have a bye this week before hosting #8 JMU next week in front of a sold out Robins Stadium. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
