Blessing named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The rigors of conference play at the collegiate level is something that most freshmen take some time getting used to.
For Carlie Blessing of the University of Richmond soccer team, that happened pretty quickly as the newcomer didn’t allow a goal in over 150 minutes of action this past week, earning her Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week accolades.
“Carlie was tremendous for us this week and really stepped up when we needed her,” Head Coach Peter Albright said. “Carlie is an incredibly talented player with a bright future. When Katie went down with an injury last week, there was no hesitation from Carlie and she really gave us a lift back there.”
For the week, Blessing logged 157 minutes of action, allowing no goals and registering nine saves to help the Spiders off to a 1-1 start in A-10 play.
The Moorestown, N.J. native tallied her second shutout of the season in Sunday’s 1-0 win over UMass.
On the year, Blessing has played 490:51 in goal, registering 30 saves and holding a 1.83 goals-against-average.
Blessing and her teammates are back in action this Thursday when they host Saint Louis in a critical Atlantic 10 matchup. Game time at Robins Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m.
