ALBANY, N.Y. – Throughout the football offices this week, there were signs that read “Road Warriors.” That exact mentality was on display on Saturday afternoon when the University of Richmond football team pulled out a thrilling triple overtime thriller, 36-30, over the 16th-ranked Great Danes of the University of Albany.
Redshirt freshman Deontez Thompson came off the bench to ignite the Richmond offense, carrying the ball 20 times for 112 yards and a career-high three touchdowns.
The defense held Albany’s all-conference running back Isaiah Ibitokun-Hanks to just 57 yards on the ground, while posting a four sacks, two INTs and 10 tackles for a loss.
“I’m extremely proud of this group, I can’t say that enough. The resiliency and toughness that these young men put on display tonight was outstanding,” Head Coach Danny Rocco said.
