A Look Into Spider Football's Decade Of Success

In less than 24 hours, a group of high school seniors will ink their names and officially join the Spider football family.
That group will look to continue a decade of success that’s arguably the best 10-year span in program history and has seen Richmond climb into the national discussion year after year.
Since 2006, the Spiders rank among the nation’s best in nearly every significant category when it comes to on-field success.
Need proof? Here’s a look at the numbers
· In the past 10 years, the Spiders have posted double-digit victories four times. Prior to that, Richmond had won 10 or more games just one other time.
· Prior to 2006, the Spiders played in 10 postseason games. In the past 10 years alone, they’ve played in 14.
· In the past 10 years, Richmond has won 83 games, the seventh-most nationally. During that span, the Spiders are 83-44 (.654).
· The Spiders have hoisted the conference championship trophy four times in the past 10 years, tied for the second-most nationally and the highest total in the CAA.
· Richmond’s five FCS playoff appearances rank seventh nationally and third-most in the CAA.
· Richmond ranks fourth nationally in FCS playoff wins since 2006 with 10. Only North Dakota State (22), Sam Houston State (13) and Montana (12) have more than the Spiders.
· The Spiders have seen 10 alumni reach the pros, tied for the third-most nationally behind only Montana (17) and Northern Iowa (12).
· Richmond is one of just five schools to win a National Championship over the past 10 years.
Those numbers don’t include that Richmond moved into Robins Stadium during the past 10 years, a place where they’ve piled up 23 sellouts in the past six years.
With 16 starters returning next season for the Spiders, the future looks bright and will get even brighter with new faces tomorrow.
