Home Opener To Be Played In Front Of Sold Out Crowd

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – There’s a buzz surrounding the University of Richmond football team after it’s thrilling season-opening win over UVA on Saturday.
That buzz along with the first-ever fireworks display at Robins Stadium has packed the stands for the season-opener against Norfolk State on Saturday evening. The Spiders will return home to play in front of the 23rd sellout in stadium history.
“We’re certainly excited to be back at home in front of our fans,” Head Coach Danny Rocco said. “Our guys are energized when we step on the field here at home and we’re looking forward to having another opportunity to do that this weekend.”
In the 37 games played at Robins Stadium, the Spiders are 27-10, including a perfect 6-0 mark last season when Richmond rolled into the FCS playoff and all the way to the semifinals.
Richmond will be looking to win its 11th consecutive home opener and extend its current home winning streak to eight games, which would tie for the third-longest streak in program history.
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and the game can be seen live on CSN Mid-Atlantic. Fireworks will begin immediately after the conclusion of the contest.
