Prospective Student-Athletes
A prospective student-athlete is a student who has started classes for the ninth grade. During your time as a prospective student-athlete certain restrictions and limitations will be in place in terms of how you can be recruited by NCAA institutions such as the University of Richmond. These recruiting guidelines can be found in the NCAA’s Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete which is a comprehensive brochure providing all standards and guidelines for prospective student-athletes who wish to participate in collegiate athletics after high school.
Recruiting Points to Know

Unofficial Visit: A visit to a college campus at a prospective student-athlete’s expense. Colleges may only provide free tickets to an on-campus athletics event. No lodging, meals, or transportation to campus may be provided. There are no limits on the number of unofficial visits a prospective student-athlete may take.
National Letter of Intent (NLI): An official document administered by the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA) and used by universities or colleges to establish a prospective student-athlete’s commitment to attend a certain university or college.
