Jerry Taylor joined Russ Huesman's staff as wide receivers coach in January 2025. Taylor comes to Richmond after stops including Columbia, William & Mary, Dartmouth, Virginia State, Saint Francis, and the Buffalo Bills. Most recently, he served as Assistant Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, and Quarterbacks Coach at Bluefield State during the 2024 season.
In his first season on staff in 2025, senior Ja’vion Griffin led the team with 48 catches for 585 yards and five touchdowns, recording his first-ever 100-yard games in back-to-back performances against Georgetown (four catches for 106 yards) and #25 Lafayette (10 catches for 113 yards and a touchdown in each game). Griffin also scored a touchdown in each of the last four games of his career. Sophomore Isaiah Dawson, Richmond’s second-leading receiver and a second-team All-Patriot League selection, caught 42 passes for 575 yards and four touchdowns, ran for 136 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, recorded two 100-yard receiving games, and ranked second in the Patriot League—and 27th nationally—in kickoff returns, including a 99-yard touchdown at #14 Lehigh. Sophomore Andreas Hill contributed 18 catches for 314 yards and three touchdowns, highlighted by 105 yards and a 75-yard touchdown on two catches in his first career start at Colgate, becoming the first Spider to gain 100+ receiving yards on two catches since Walker Gillette in 1969; he also added touchdown catches against Holy Cross and Lafayette.
Taylor began his time at Columbia in 2019 where he coached the Lions’ wide receivers. Following the 2021 season, he also took on the role of Offensive Pass Game Coordinator. Under his guidance, the Columbia receiving corps flourished, with Bryson Canty earning First Team All-Ivy honors in 2022, totaling 733 yards and six touchdowns. Additionally, Marcus Libman and JJ Jenkins each surpassed 35 catches and 400 yards, helping the team double its receiving yardage from the previous season.
In 2021, Columbia’s wide receivers combined for 103 receptions, 1,222 yards, and seven touchdowns. Libman led the team in receptions (33) and tied for the most yards (280) with Ernest Robertson. In 2019, the Lions’ wideouts recorded 129 receptions for 1,445 yards and nine touchdowns, led by Josh Wainwright’s 46 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns.
During his time at William & Mary in 2018, Taylor helped Devonte Dedmon earn All-CAA honors, leading the team in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. Under Taylor’s tutelage, Dedmon finished his career among the Tribe’s all-time top 10 in multiple statistical categories.
Prior to his time in Williamsburg, Taylor spent four years at Dartmouth where he helped the team’s receivers earn multiple All-Ivy honors and also served as the program’s recruiting coordinator. He got his start with the Big Green as an offensive quality control coach during the 2014-15 season before gaining NFL experience as a summer intern wide receivers coach with the Buffalo Bills in 2016.
A homecoming for Taylor, his coaching journey began as a graduate assistant at Richmond during the 2011-12 season. Afterward, he coached tight ends at Saint Francis from 2012-13 and then served as wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator at Virginia State in 2013-14.
Taylor earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Averett University in 2012. He played one season of college football at Bowie State before an illness ended his playing career and led him to coaching. A Richmond native, Taylor is a product of Lee-Davis (now Mechanicsville) High School.
