Andy McPherson joined the University of Richmond in the summer of 2021 following more than 15 years of working as an athletic trainer in intercollegiate athletics. McPherson works with men's basketball and men's golf.
After earning a Bachelor’s degree from Arkansas State and a Master’s from Illinois State, McPherson spent eight years as the head athletics trainer at Hampden-Sydney College, working primarily with the football and men’s basketball teams. In his final two years at Hampden-Sydney, he added the title of Assistant Athletics Director and took on additional tasks in the areas of fundraising, compliance, and advising.
McPherson joined Clemson as an assistant athletic trainer working with the men’s basketball team in 2012 and spent three seasons with the Tigers before returning to the state of Illinois in 2015 to work as an assistant athletic trainer for the University of Illinois football team. Following two seasons with the Illini, McPherson moved to the University of Dayton, where he spent three seasons as the athletic trainer for the Flyers football program.
Immediately prior to joining the Spiders, McPherson spent a year as an associate athletic trainer at Richmond’s Collegiate School, where he managed the athletic department’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
