Mark Stanton was promoted to Senior Associate Director of Athletics & Chief of Staff in September 2026. He serves as chief compliance officer as well as senior advisor to Athletics Director John P. Hardt and helps coordinate the department's strategic and operational priorities. His portfolio includes oversight of rules compliance, legal affairs, name, image and likeness (NIL) initiatives, student-athlete conduct, and the implementation of emerging NCAA policies.
Prior to his current role, Stanton served as UR's Associate Athletic Director for Compliance (starting in January 2024), Assistant AD for Compliance (2021), and Compliance Coordinator (2018).
Stanton is an ex-officio member and former chair of the University Staff Advisory Council (USAC), and a longstanding member of the University Hearing Board. He is also active in the National Association for Athletic Compliance (NAAC), where he participates in the ACE Mentoring Program.
Before joining Richmond, Stanton served as Compliance Assistant at Georgetown University and previously served as a judicial law clerk for the Superior Court of New Jersey, Criminal Division, in Trenton, N.J.
He earned his J.D. from Villanova University School of Law and holds a B.A. in political science from Denison University, where he was a four-year member of the men’s lacrosse team.
Stanton is a member of the New Jersey and Pennsylvania Bars. He and his wife, Naida, live in Richmond with their son and daughter.
