Kelly Grant was promoted to associate head coach at Richmond in January 2022 after four seasons as an assistant coach for the Spiders.
Â
Since coming to Richmond in January 2018, Grant has been vital to the Spider soccer coaching staff. In the 2021 season, she helped the Spiders attain the program's most conference wins since 2011 and Richmond's first postseason appearance since 2014.
Â
Grant coached a defensive unit that only allowed 27 goals in 2019 cutting the goals against nearly in half and earned five shutouts. Three of the five shutouts came against Atlantic 10 opponents, including crosstown rival VCU. The defense was particularly stingy against A-10 foes allowing one goal or less in six of the 10 games.
Â
Grant’s recruiting efforts brought in a freshmen class that had six earn starts in 2019. In total, 10 freshmen played in five or more games with two leading the team in minutes played.
Â
Grant came to Richmond after spending the last three seasons on Beall's staff at High Point. While with the Panthers, she coached a defensive unit that garnered 12 total All-Big South accolades, including a Big South Defensive Player of the Year honor. The Panthers boasted 33 shutouts during her tenure, and allowed just 0.457 goals per game in 2015, the fourth-best mark in the country.
Â
Before coaching at High Point, Grant served as the women's soccer graduate assistant at Goucher College for two seasons after working for three seasons as an assistant coach at the Catholic University of America.
Â
Grant gained experience working with Region I ODP for eight years, five as a staff coach. She holds an NSCAA National License, a USSF National "D" Coaching License and a NSCAA Advanced National License.
Â
Grant graduated from Stony Brook University in 2010 with a degree in Health Sciences and Technology. She played four seasons with the Seawolves women's soccer program as a defender. She and her husband, Daniel, welcomed their first child in January 2022.
