Spiders Ranked 11th In Sagarin NCAA Basketball Ratings

RICHMOND, Va. - Following its 84-80 overtime win at George Washington on Saturday night, the University of Richmond basketball team is ranked 11th in the nation in the latest Sagarin Ratings. The ratings include all 325 NCAA Division I basketball teams.
The Spiders are 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Richmond has home victories over Radford and conference rival Old Dominion. The Spiders have won at Western Michigan, at Mississippi State and at George Washington. Richmond's lone loss was by eight points to undefeated Wake Forest.
Richmond is off to its best start since the 1990-91 campaign, when the Spiders finished the season with a 22-10 mark. Richmond was the #15-seed in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament and upset #2 Syracuse, the first time a #15-seed defeated a #2-seed.
The Spiders, under fourth-year head coach John Beilein, return to action on Tuesday, December 12 when they host Marist at 7:30 p.m. at the Robins Center. Richmond then breaks for final exams before travelling to Appalachian State on Thursday, December 21. The Spiders will play in the 2000 Tournament of Champions in Charlotte on December 29 and 30. Richmond will face the College of Charleston in the first round at 7:00 pm. Massachusetts and North Carolina will meet at 9:00 p.m. in the second semifinal contest. The consolation game will begin at 7:00 p.m. on December 30, followed by the championship game at 9:00 p.m.
