The spring 2000 season concluded another successful year as Richmond was ranked third in District II and competed in the NCAA Division I East Regional Men's Golf Championships.
Senior Ken Macdonald had an outstanding senior year, finishing in the top 20 in all eleven tournaments and he was the number one ranked player in the district for a second consecutive season. The best player in Richmond history, Macdonald holds or shares a host of school records, including 18 holes (67, -5), 54 holes (212, -4), season average (72.65, 1998-99) and career average (73.44, 1997-2000). Macdonald earned first-team all-state honors and garnered first-team All Colonial Athletic Association accolades for a second straight year.
In addition to Macdonald's watershed season, senior Andrew Kennedy, junior Joe Horowitz and Bryan Stark and sophomore Ryan McLain all put together solid years. Kennedy shot a team-best two-under-par 70 in the final round of the CAA Championships.
With the graduation of Macdonald and Kennedy, the young Spiders began the fall campaign with some unanswered questions. However, it became readily apparent that Richmond would be competitive again. A solid cast of underclassmen comprised of Joe Cunningham, Mark DiGiacomo and Steve Lessing and other returning players improved their games over the summer and joined returning letterwinners Horowitz, McLain and Stark to produce another strong team.
Richmond captured two of their five fall tournaments and were led by Horowitz's 73.2 stroke average, while sophomore Steve Lessing followed at 74.0. The Spiders opened the fall season by winning the Navy Fall Classic. In addition, Richmond won the Liberty/JAE Classic and Horowitz shot a school-record setting six-under-par-score.
Richmond concluded the fall campaign as one of the top three schools in the district and have positioned themselves to qualify for postseason play for a third consecutive season.
