UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, VA - Richmond head men's basketball coach John Beilein has announced the signing of guards Will Holloman (Jacksonville, Fla./Wolfson) and Patrick Beilein (Richmond, Va./Benedictine) and forward Kevin Steenberge (Columbia, Md./River Hill).
Holloman, a 6-0, 175-pound guard averaged 24 points per game as a junior at Wolfson High School. He shot 60 percent from the field and 45 percent from three-point range last year. Named the city of Jacksonville's Player of the Year as a sophomore, Holloman also averaged five rebounds and four assists his junior year. Holloman will leave Wolfson as the program's all-time leading scorer having already scored over 1,500 points in three years.
"Will is an explosive scorer who can play either the one or two guard spot," said Beilein. "He has a knack for getting into the lane and finishing the play. Will has shown us a good combination and shot selection. He comes from a very disciplined program. "
Steenberge is a 6-9, 215-pound center that attends River Hill High School in Clarksville, Md. As a junior, Steenberge averaged 15 points, 15 rebounds and seven blocks per game and earned first-team All-Howard County honors and was an Honorable Mention All-Metro. Steenberge was recently named one of the Top 100 Prospects by Street & Smith Magazine.
"Kevin is an excellent rebounder with extraordinary senses around the basket," Beilein remarks. "His wing span is just under seven feet and he has enormous hands. His shot blocking ability and passion to rebound could give him a very early opportunity to play for us. "
Beilein, a 6-4, 195-pound guard, hails from Richmond, Va. and Benedictine High School. As a junior, Beilein averaged nearly 17 points and eight rebounds a game for the Cadets. He earned third-team All-Metro honors.
Beilein says of his oldest son, "Patrick has a combination of talents very much like the players we like to recruit. A significant part of our plan is to have some big time three-point shooters, who can also see the floor. We feel Patrick can do both of these things very well. Besides, his mother thinks he's really good too."
