Post-Season Honors for Women's Soccer

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Richmond senior goalkeeper Kristen Samuhel (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) was selected to the VaSID First Team, as voted on by the sports information directors in the Commonwealth of Virginia, while sophomore defender Edda Gardarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/ Briedholti) earned second-team honors. Samuhel was also tabbed to the 2001 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Regional Mid-Atlantic Third Team.
A first team All-Atlantic 10 selection and a member of the conference's all-tournament team, Samuhel started all 20 games in goal for the Spiders posting a goals against average of 1.31 and a save percentage of .794. Named to the Soccer America Magazine Team of the Week and the Atlantic 10 Player of the week the second week in September, the netminder recorded an A-10 best save percentage of .850 while registering six shutouts on the season.
A first-team All-Atlantic 10 selection, Gardarsdottir saw action in 17 games. She recorded three goals in only 16 attempted shots on goal. An excellent field player, the sophomore defender also added three assists.
