Football Places Seven On All-Academic Team

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond football program placed seven players on the 2001 Atlantic 10 Football Conference's All-Academic Team, as voted by the league's sports information directors.
To qualify for the All-Academic team, a player must carry a grade point average of at least 3.00 and be a starter or key reserve.
The lone offensive recipient from Richmond was senior wide receiver Ryan Tolhurst. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native has a 3.43 GPA with a major in health and sport science.
Six defensive players made the Atlantic 10's All-Academic team. In alphabetical order, those honored were senior defensive lineman Andrew Bogle, junior defensive lineman Steve Boyer, senior defensive back Jason Hill, and three more senior defensive linemen Josh Spraker, Randy Witham and Jonathan Wilfong.
A Richmond, Va. native and St. Christopher's product, Bogle has earned a 3.50 GPA while studying biology. Another Richmond native, Boyer, a Douglas Freeman graduate, holds a 3.41 GPA with a computer science major.
Hill, a native of Voorhees, N.J., also majors in health and sport science and holds a 3.18 GPA. Spraker, from Harmony, Pa., has earned a 3.07 GPA while studying marketing.
A native of Dover, Del., Witham carries a 3.16 GPA with a political science major. Wilfong, a second team All-America and Bridgewater, Va. native, has a 3.40 GPA in criminal justice.
In total, 46 student-athletes were honored from the 11-member conference. There were 23 players on both the offense and the defense.
