RICHMOND, Va. - DID YOU KNOW?
Facts about the 2000 Spiders:
- Posted a program-record 10 victories.
- Were crowned Atlantic 10 Conference co-champions.
- Made their second NCAA appearance in the past three years. Richmond defeated No. 9 Youngstown State in the first round of the playoffs, 10-3 before falling to Montana, 34-20 in the quarterfinals.
- Jim Reid Named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year and Coach of the Year in the State of Virginia.
- Senior offensive lineman Eric Beatty and junior defensive end Josh Spraker selected all-state. Beatty was also tabbed second-team All America by The Sports Network.
- Spiders were ranked No. 6 in the final Sports Network Poll.
- Ten All-Atlantic 10 selections, including first-team honorees Eric Beatty and Josh Spraker.
- Second-team Atlantic 10: Senior linebacker Mac Janney and junior tight end Mike Millard.
- Third-team Atlantic 10: Senior tailback Tyronne Turner, senior defensive end David Lewandoski, senior cornerback Harold Hill, junior safety Chad Blackstock and sophomore linebacker Mark Thompson.
- Eight players named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team: senior offensive lineman Eric Beatty, junior defensive lineman Josh Spraker, junior defensive end Randy Witham, junior wide reciever Ryan Tolhurst and junior defensive end Jonathan Wilfong.
- The Spiders led the Atlantic 10 and were 10th in the nation in rushing offense, averaging 266.5 yards per game on the ground. Richmond led the league in time of possession (34:58) and Spider quarterbacks were sacked just eight times this season, the top mark in the conference.
- Sophomore Ramon Richeson was named Atlantic 10 and National Defensive Player of the Week.
- Had five players rush for more than 100 yards.
- Established a school record for rushing yards in a game with 430 against Villanova.
- Posted a 30-27 victory over Division I-A Arkansas State on September 30.
