McElfish Smashes Shot Put Record

FAIRFAX, Va. -Junior Justin McElfish (Woodbridge, Va.) broke an eight year mark in the men's shot put on Saturday at the 2001 James Madison Invitational. McElfish took first place honors in the event with a throw of 53' 3 1/2". He broke the record previously held by Scott Wenk by over a foot. In addition, McElfish placed seventh in the discus with a throw of 139'.
Senior Tamika Williams (Southhampton, Bermuda) completed her Richmond career, winning the second heat of the women's 800 meter run. Her time of 2:12.35 was ninth overall out of 31 women.
