Richmond, Virginia - University of Richmond senior golfer Joe Horowitz has been named to the 2001 All-Colonial Athletic Association First Team.
A native of Long Beach, New York and a 1997 graduate of Long Beach High School, Horowitz has won two tournaments during his senior year. The Richmond captain finished first out of 90 golfers at the Liberty JAE Classic this past fall with a two-round score of 138, a school-record six-under-par. Horowitz won the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate in Williamsburg this spring with a two-round score of 142, again finishing first among 90 participants.
The 1998 CAA Rookie of the Year, Horowitz had a 73.2 stroke average in the fall, 76.1 in the spring and a combined average of 74.9.
Richmond won two of its first three tournaments in the fall and was ranked #10 in the Golfweek poll. Horowitz and his Spider teammates have gone to regionals each of the past two years and hope to make it three times this spring. In 1999, Richmond advanced to the Division I Men's Golf Championships for the first time in school history.
