The defending Atlantic 10 Champion Richmond Spiders are less than a month away from kicking off the 2001 season at Virginia, Saturday September 1st. The Spiders are starting to prepare for the season, and so should you - by reliving the top moments of the 2000 championship campaign.
2000 Football Highlights
1) Sean Gustus' 74-yard TD run caps a 23-point fourth quarter rally in a 30-27 victory at Division 1 Arkansas State.
2) Spider defense forces an Arkansas State fumble on the goal line to preserve UR's first victory over a Division 1-A team since 1985.
3) Spider defense stops Rhode Island on 4th and 1 in overtime, giving UR a dramatic 13-10 road victory.
4) With 1:38 to play, quarterback D'Arcy Wills connects with receiver Ryan Tolhurst on 4th and 8 for a 20-yard touchdown, giving the Spiders a 21-18 lead at William & Mary.
5) Spider defense stops the Tribe on 4th down to clinch UR's first win in Williamsburg since 1973 and a share of the Atlantic 10 regular season title.
6) Jason Hill's 44-yard interception touchdown return with 1:22 to play gives the Spiders a rain-soaked 10-3 victory over Youngstown State in the first round of the Division 1-AA playoffs at UR Stadium.
