PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -
For the second straight year, the Atlantic 10
Conference is presenting the Atlantic 10 ShootOut, beginning January 15
and culminating on March 9 at the Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball
Championship in Philadelphia. This year, the Atlantic 10 Conference and
official sponsors GMAC, US Airways, and Verizon, as well as presenting
sponsor Softsoap Active, bring the ShootOut tour back to each Atlantic 10
campus and for the first time to the University of Richmond.
The Atlantic 10 ShootOut is a team hoop shooting competition with two new
divisions for the 2002 Tour. Free and open to all students at Atlantic 10
institutions, male, female and co-ed teams of two will shoot alternating
shots from six designated spots on the floor, all with point values based
on difficulty. The object is to score as many points as possible in 30
seconds. Students can register through the Atlantic 10 website
or by picking up a registration form at each
institution's intramural office.
At the end of the Qualifying Round, male and female division winners will
be awarded round-trip airfare to anywhere in the continental United
States. The co-ed winners from each campus will be flown to Philadelphia
to compete for the overall Atlantic 10 ShootOut crown at the Verizon
Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship at the First Union Spectrum. The
members of the winning team will take home the grand prize of $10,000! For
