Track & Field Performs With Elite Competition at Blue Heaven Event.

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- The University of Richmond track & field team competed against some of the nation's elite performers at the Blue Heaven Track & Field Rumble in Chapel Hill, N.C. on January 26.
The highlight of the meet for Richmond came from assistant coach Angela Bertholdt who finished second in the shot put with a heave of 49'03.75". In addition to setting a personal best, Bertholdt qualified to compete at the USA Track & Field National Championship that will be held on March 1-2 in New York City's Armory Track & Field Center.
The Spider women did well in the mile as Sherry Sikora placed seventh (5:06.99) and Bridget Keenan placed 11th (5:09.64). Also running well in the distance events, Sarah Taylor was seventh in the 5,000 meters (17:58.64), while teammate Sara Dill finished 14th with a time of 18:40.12.
Rachel Shrewsbury led Richmond in the field events with a 13th-place finish in the shot put. She threw a season-best 44'01.50".
On the men's side, David Blanchard ran the fastest time of any Spider this year in the 800 meters, finishing 19th in 1:58.10. Justin McElfish, threw the shot put 47'01.50" and finished 17th.
Richmond returns to action at the VMI Invitational in Lexington, Va. on February 2.
