PHILADELPHIA - The University of Richmond was selected to finish third in the West division in a poll of Atlantic 10's head coaches and media released at today's Media Day. Xavier and Temple were tabbed as the teams to beat in the A-10 men's basketball race.
Senior guard Reggie Brown (Flushing, N.Y.) and junior forward Mike Skrocki (Howell, N.J.) were named to the league's preseason second-team.
Brown led the Spiders in scoring last year, averaging 14.4 points a game (13th in the league). Skrocki, a third-team Atlantic 10 selection a season ago, averaged 12.9 points and 3.6 rebounds a contest. He tallied over 16 points a game in conference play alone.
Selected to the preseason All-Defensive team were junior Tony Dobbins (Mitchellville, Md.) and senior Johnathan Collins (Norfolk, Va.).
A member of last season's All-Defensive team, Dobbins was ranked third in the conference in steals (70). Collins finished third in the A-10 last season in blocks (77), a Richmond single season record.
First-year coach Jerry Wainwright takes over a program that returns four starters in 2002-03. Richmond, which competed in its first season in the A-10 last year, finished 22-14 (2nd in the West) and advanced to the quarterfinals of the National Invitation Tournament.
A complete list of the preseason All-Conference teams and predicted order of finish follow.
