UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond department of athletics announced today that John Pelet has signed a National Letter of Intent to join head coach Kevin Lynch's men's golf program for the 2003-04 season.
An Atglen, Pa. native, Pelet earned honorable mention Boy's Polo Golf Junior All-America honors in 2002 and won the AJGA Fieldstone Junior Classic. In 2001 he participated in the USGA Junior Amateur championship and finished fifth at the AJGA Marsh Junior. He also earned First Team All-America and All-Star honors from the Plantations Jr. Golf Tour in 1999 and 2000.
Pelet enjoyed a stellar prep career at Bishop Shanahan High School. A four-year participant in the Pennsylvania State High School Tournament, Pelet was a two-time District 1 Champion (2000 and 2002). Pelet won the Southern Chester County League title all four years and was the 1998 Sam Pennacle Player of the Year.
"John is a student of the game with a great attitude and work ethic," Lynch said. "He has the ability to make an immediate impact on the team because he has all the tools. I believe his best golf is still to come."
