The University of Richmond will compete in its second women's soccer NCAA Tournament this weekend in Charlotte, N.C. The Spiders (13-5-2), automatic qualifiers from the Atlantic 10, will take on ACC Tournament runner-up Clemson (14-7-0) Friday, November 15, at 5:00 p.m. at Transamerica Field.
The meeting is the fifth between the two teams. The Tigers hold a 3-1 edge in the series. Richmond captured the Atlantic 10 championship title this past weekend with a 3-1 victory over Rhode Island. The Tigers fell to North Carolina, 6-0, last Sunday in the ACC Tournament finals. Richmond is 21-30-3 versus this year's NCAA field having faced 17 of the 63 teams in the tourney. The Spiders have faced intra-state rival James Madison the most, 11 times (4-7). The Spiders have a 1-1 record in the NCAA Tournament.
The Spiders tied a program-best for wins with their 13th victory this past weekend. The seven-year old program first made an NCAA appearance in 2000, posting a 5-1 first round victory over West Virginia before falling to Nebraska (0-4).
