Well hello there! I probably should introduce myself formally before you learn all about me and my teammates on the University of Richmond Women's Soccer team.
I am Meredith J. Johnson, well some call me JJ, J-Love, J-Bird, you get the picture, basically I will answer to anything, well maybe I shouldn't say anything, don't want you to get the wrong idea. I am most frequently called JJ around these parts. I like to consider myself as a unique member of this team; I am the first person to redshirt on this team (I always said I would go down in the record books for something, haha). I am currently playing my fifth year of eligibility. I had to redshirt my freshmen year due to knee reconstructive surgery. Some like to call me a super senior, but I would like to point out the fact that I have started graduate work here and working on receiving my masters in August. I have been a co-captain for this team the past two years and love every moment that I have shared with this team.
This year has been the most amazing year of soccer for me. We are preparing right now for the third round of the NCAA's, the Sweet Sixteen, and how sweet it is. In this year alone, our team has captured its first conference championship in its history. We have gone the farthest in the NCAA's than any other women's soccer team, and we have had the most wins for the women's soccer program. I am so fortunate to say that I have been a part of it all. This team is very unique though, together we have climbed as far as we have, and together we are preparing to keep pushing each other on. People ask me what is my favorite college soccer memory and I can't answer them with one exact moment, for me this season is full of favorite moments and it isn't over yet.
The women that I call my teammates are some of the most incredible people I have ever been associated with. We are all different from each other but together we mesh so well. I would do anything for anyone of these women and I believe they would do the same for me. This team is much much more than just the starting eleven, it is more than those who come in off the bench, what makes this team a team is every single member. Being a part of this team includes every member, every coach, our trainers, and even our good luck assistant athletic director Jules...together we make all these experiences worthwhile.
