The University of Richmond looks to improve on its 1-0 start tonight with a 7:00 p.m. date with the Hampton Pirates (1-0) tonight at the Convocation Center (7,200) in Hampton, Va. The contest is the first meeting between the two Virginia schools.
The Spiders are fresh off a 92-46 victory over Radford this past Friday that saw five UR players score in double figures. This is the first time a Richmond team has opened with two state schools since the 1993-94 season (Radford, VMI).
With head coach Jerry Wainwright's victory in the season opener, he became the seventh Richmond head coach (out of 12) to open his respective Spider coaching career with a 'W' in the win column. The last four head coaches have all accomplished the same feat; Goetz, Tarrant, Dooley, Beilein.
