Women's Soccer Receives A-10 Accolades

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond junior midfielder Edda Gardarsdottir earned All-Atlantic 10 First Team honors it was announced today by the conference office. Senior back Anne Rieser (Second Team) and freshman forward Annette Isham (All-Rookie) were also selected in a vote by the league's coaches.
A two-time All-Atlantic 10 First Team honoree, Gardarsdottir recorded three goals and five assists (11 points) in 16 games this fall. A native of Reykjavik, Iceland, Gardarsdottir tied for fifth on the team in points, but her biggest contribution was controlling the flow of the game.
A native of Middletown, Md., Rieser has been a consistent force in the Spiders' defense for the past three years. After receiving a medical redshirt in 1999, Rieser has started 54 of Richmond's 58 matches. She helped hold league opponents to just 12 goals and registered three shots in 18 matches this fall.
Isham burst onto the Richmond scene, ranking second on the team with six goals and six assists (18 points), during her freshman season. The Denver, Colo., native tied for seventh in the A-10 in assists and tied for 10th in points. The forward netted two game-winning goals and scored twice (career high) in a 2-1 win against Duquesne.
The Spiders (11-5-2, 8-3 A-10) won four of their last five games and finished third in the Atlantic 10 regular season. They return to action against second-seed Dayton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 8 in the A-10 Tournament semifinal.
