Three Football Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-Conference

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference today announced the 2002 Football Academic All-Conference team and three Richmond student-athletes earned the distinction.
In a vote among the league's sports information directors, 50 student-athletes were selected after qualifying with a 3.0-or-higher grade point average and contributing as a starter or key reserve.
Senior All-Atlantic 10 First Team member, Steve Boyer (Richmond, Va.) enjoyed a dominating final season. The defensive lineman ranked third in the A-10 with 20 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. A computer science major, Boyer posted a 3.34 grade point average.
Offensive linemen Josh Burnette (Charlotte, N.C.) and Artie Rayner (Volant, Pa.) both earned Academic All-Conference. A junior, Burnette carries a 3.40 grade point average with a business administration major. A sophomore majoring in physics, Rayner started all 11 games and has earned a 3.04 grade point average.
Burnette and Rayner helped anchor a line that led the Spiders to the sixth-highest rushing total in program history (2,185).
Richmond completed the 2002 campaign with a 4-7 overall record, 4-5 in A-10 action.
