Women's Tennis Bounces Northern Iowa, 5-1

RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond women's tennis team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 5-1 win against Northern Iowa today at the VCU Indoor Tennis Complex today.
Playing on a neutral court, Richmond won four of five singles matches and two of three doubles matches. Three of their singles victories came in straight sets.
At No. 2 singles, Vanessa Bagnato dominated Jess Landes, 6-2, 6-2. She also teamed with Lindsay Cox to win at No. 2 doubles, 8-2, over Kristina Bothoua and Carrie Amsbaugh. Cox won at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2, for Richmond.
Courtney Klein swept at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-2, and then combined with Casey Cohen to win at No. 3 doubles, 8-4. Cohen needed three sets to win at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 3-6, 6-0, against Amsbaugh.
Richmond's No. 1 player, Jeannette Cluskey, lost her singles match (7-6, 6-4) and her No. 1 doubles match, 8-5, when she teamed with Patty Devlin.
The Spiders return to action at 3 p.m. on February 8 against Campbell in Blacksburg, Va.
