UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond department of athletics announced today that 16 student-athletes have signed a National Letter of Intent to join head coach Jim Reid's football program for the 2002 season.
The 16-player class includes 12 from the state of Virginia and seven from the Metro-Richmond area. Two of the Virginia standouts, Ryan Brandt and Pete Parziale, were teammates at Jefferson Forest High School in Forest, Va.
Local products joining the Spiders are: defensive linemen Ryan Cameron (Mills Godwin) and Johnny Campbell (Douglas Freeman), defensive back Anthony Dabney (Hermitage), linebackers Lance Gray (Fork Union/Lee-Davis) and Nate Fairley (Patrick Henry), quarterback Sean Kelly (Monacan) and quarterback/defensive back Micah Womack (Thomas Dale).
A further breakdown of the class determines nine defensive players, three offensive players and four student-athletes listed on both sides of the ball.
In addition to their accolades on the field, this class is defined by its strength in the classroom. Many of the student-athletes have qualified for the honor roll and select others are members of the National Honor Society.
"Our staff is very pleased with these young men that have chosen to be a part of the Richmond football family," Reid said. "There is great athleticism, intelligence and character in this class."
