RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Reggie Brown scored 21 points, and Richmond held Montana State to 40 percent shooting in a 63-48 victory Saturday night in the first round of the NIT.
Richmond (21-13) will play at Minnesota on Monday.
Montana State (20-10) took its last lead at 19-17 on a layup by Damir Latovic with 9:42 remaining in the first half. The Spiders scored the next 12 points, holding the Bobcats without a basket for nearly six minutes.
Montana State scored the final four points of the half to pull within 32-25.
The Bobcats, who got no closer than 10 points in the final 9:06 of the game, were just 9-of-24 from the floor in the second half while Richmond connected on 10-of-20. For the game, the Spiders shot 54 percent.
Jeff Myers added 12 points for Richmond and Johnathan Collins had 10.
Latovic was the only Bobcat in double figures with 13 points.
