UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Today Richmond head men's basketball coach John Beilein announced his resignation to become the head coach at West Virginia University.
"John is a great coach and made a significant contribution to the Spider basketball program," Richmond Director of Athletics Jim Miller said. "The University of Richmond has a strong basketball tradition and I am confident and excited about our future."
BEILEIN STATEMENTS
"I will forever be indebted to the University of Richmond for the past five years. They embraced me, my staff and all of our families. We are extremely proud of the teams we put on the court and feel the program is headed in the right direction in the Atlantic 10 Conference."
"After watching the program develop and grow for the past five years, particularly the development of this team, this decision was extremely hard."
"This was a difficult choice because of the relationships that I developed starting with (former Athletic Director) Chuck Boone and then Jim Miller and all the staff they put around us. I would be remiss without thanking our fans, alumni and students, as they have been with the Spiders and our teams through thick and thin."
